Every spring the Round Tower organises a unicycle race up the Spiral Walk. Participants must ride all the way up and down again without “faults”, such as getting off the bike. The world record for this rather specialised sport is 1 minute 48.7 seconds, set by Thomas Olsen in 1989.

Bike races have been held in the Round Tower since the late 19th century, when penny-farthings were used. In 1971, top cyclists Ole Ritter and Leif Mortensen jousted for the title “king of the mountains”. Ritter won in 55.3 seconds.
