A time for
… textile art
29. april
- 5. juni
Twenty-one
artists display entirely new works, all inspired by the same
verse of the Old Testament.
“There is a
time for everything, and a season for every purpose under
Heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3)
It’s up to
each of the 21 artists to consider the meaning in this verse
when they contribute to the exhibition, “A time for …
textile art” in Copenhagen’s Round Tower. There are no
requirements for the size or form of the creations, only
that their thoughts about their individual work be expressed
in words and presented alongside their visual expression.
Word and image create a dialogue.
“We’re
looking for the essential expression that can move and
enrich us, as opposed to the hasty and the ephemeral, which
dominate our time,” according to Ellis Hinz-Berg and Lone
Villaume, the arrangers of “A time for … textile art.”
“We’re seeking sensuality, emotions, life, religion;
thoughts about life and death, war and peace, joy and
sorrow.”
Hinz-Berg
and Villaume have invited textile artists from Denmark,
Norway, Spain and the USA, all of whom work with what they
call, “a pictorial and expressive idiom,” through weaving,
printing and paper.
