Exhibition “The Third Culture”
The EU-MAN
organisation represents migrant artists globally, giving all
members free expression in their artistic output.
Migrants face the
challenge of relating to two cultures - the original one and
that of the new society
The world of the
migrant artist may be even more intriguing as the artistic
expression has to explore the unknown. As society with its
values changes by immigration a new dimension emerges in the
artist’s mind and opens new horizons.
This leaves the
artist reflecting on all aspects of the two cultures to be
explored and experienced.
Artists stand “in
between” and create their own space. They transfer aspects
of the original culture in the immigration process to a new
artistic expression.
This was the root of
the concept of a third culture as a theme for the 10th
anniversary of EU-MAN which will be celebrated with an
exhibition in 2007.
Experiencing the
intermediate space of the migrant artist, between the
original culture and the new, gives energy to a Third
Culture.
