Tower to Tower

100 artists in The West Jutland House

Northwest Jutlanders are exhibiting art and craft at Rundetaarn from 10 February to 18 March 2007

The soul of Northwest Jutland

Tower to Tower is an exhibition that has migrated from Bovbjerg Lighthouse and the North Sea straight to Rundetaarn, complete with video installations, paintings, sculptures, textiles, glass and embroidery.  It provides a rare insight into an area of Denmark that extends from Ulfborg in the south to Harboøre and Hvidbjerg in the north, taking in Holstebro and Struer on the way.  It is not about local romance, but art with a broad scope that reflects the soul and identity of Northwest Jutland.

The taste of the sea

There is something about the light, the untamed sea and the west wind that draws artists and inspires them.  This is also evident from the exhibition, where the sea, moors and wind-swept trees of the dunes recur in many guises.  All the way from the video installation following life on board a fishing boat to the tightly composed abstract paintings that evoke the taste of the sea and the feeling of sand beneath one’s feet.  But the exhibition also goes indoors with stories of Northwest Jutlanders, their lives and dreams.

Exploring

The everyday stories have been collected and committed to paper by Tower to Tower’s artistic director, Lisbeth Hermansen, who decided to make the stories and impressions of the homes and the people involved part of the exhibition.  In other words, Lisbeth Hermansen has created an installation that is split into various rooms, with colours, furniture and letters from the private homes conducting a dialogue with the art.  “The public will be able to go exploring and become acquainted with a multiplicity of works and narratives.  They will gain an insight into and hopefully be interested by West Jutland and the life lived there,” she says.

Tower to Tower is a LEADER+ initiative and is being coordinated by the Regional Development Unit in the County of Ringkjøbing.  Read more (http://www.dffe.dk/Default.asp?ID=5435
