JOHN FRANDSEN was born in 1956 in Aalborg. He graduated from the University of Aarhus in 1982 with the music as his main subject. He got a cantor diploma from The Jutland Academy of Music in Aarhus 1983. In 1985 he received a diploma degree in composition from the same place with Hans Abrahamsen and Karl Aage Rasmussen as teachers. From 1991-1994 he studied conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. From 1997-1999 he taught composition at the 'Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense. John Frandsen is organist at the Stavnsholt Church in Farum. In 1998 he founded the chamber choir Convivum, together with his collegue Allan Rasmussen. He is chairman of the Danish Association of Composers, member of the boards of 'The Second Opera' and the Information Center of Music (MIC) and member of the council of KODA. John Frandsen was granted the Schierbeck Prize in 1993 and the Hakon Børresen Prize in 1998.
