COPENHAGEN GUITAR FESTIVAL '01
We are
very proud to present Paul Galbraith, Timo Korhonen
and Frank Bungarten as teachers at the Copenhagen
Guitar Festival, which takes place from the 8-22. of July 2001 6 active
participants have the
possibility to get one lesson from each of the teachers. There is also the possibility to
follow the classes as a listener. Guitarists who would like to be active participants must
be either students from the academies of music or guitarists at the same level. In order
to be taken into consideration you are requested to send an application with your
Curriculum Vitae and a suggestion of the repertoire to play under the class. (at least 3
pieces) The applications will be considered in
succession. Further
information: The price for active participants is DKK 1500 and includes 3 lessons and free admission to the concerts with Paul Galbraith (19th of July), Timo Korhonen (20th of July) and Frank Bungarten (21st of July). The price
for listeners is DKK 750 and includes free
admission to the concerts with Paul Galbraith (19th of July), Timo Korhonen (20th
of July) and Frank Bungarten (21st of July), as well as the joint concert with
the active students (22nd of July). 1-day
pass costs 250 DKK (valid only for the master

Friday 20th of July 2001 - master class with Paul Galbraith

Paul
Galbraith - born in Scotland, currently lives
in Brazil. Galbraith first won public acclaim at the age of 17. His performance at the
Segovia International Guitar Competition won him the Silver Medal. This award served as a
platform for an international career including engagements with some of the finest
orchestras in Brittain and Europe. Galbraith performs as a soloist, and together with
different ensembles and orchestras. He also tours extensively with the Brazilian Guitar
Quartet, of which he is a founding member. Galbraith's most recent CDs on Delos are the
Bach Lute Suites and Paul Galbraith Plays Haydn (featuring Galbraith's arrangements of
four keyboard sonatas). Paul
Galbraith plays a concert in the Round Tower (Rundetaarn) on Thursday 19th
of July at 8.30 p.m. |
Saturday 21st of July 2001 - master class with Timo Korhonen

At the
age of 17 the Finnish artist Timo Korhonen was the youngest contestant ever to win the
competition held in Munich, run by the German broadcasting companies. Since his victory in
Munich Korhonen has given numerous recitals, appeared as soloist with major orchestras and
played chamber music. He has a broad repertoire, ranging from Renaissance to the music of
present day and he has worked with a number of composers. Leo Brouwer and Olli
Kortekangas, for example, have dedicated works to him. Timo Korhonen teaches at the Turku
Conservatoire and holds master classes. His numerous discs have won enthusiastic reception
by international critics and audience. Timo

Sunday 22nd of July 2001 - master class with Frank Bungarten

Frank Bungarten is one of the most
remarkable concert guitarists of his generation. In 1981 he received first prize in the
International Guitar Competition of Granada and was honoured by the legendary Andrés
Segovia. Since then he has been giving concerts all over the world. Frank Bungarten is to
be counted among the guitar soloists with the greatest live repertoire today. This is
verified by a series of famous MD&G label recordings presenting complete cycles of his
work. 24 Caprichos de Goya by Castelnuovo-Tedesco was awarded the Preis der
Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics Prize); Audio Reference
Prize 1998 was bestowed upon Elogio de la Guitarra comprising masterpieces by
Joaquín Rodrigo. At present he holds a chair at the College of Music and Theatre in
Hannover. He teaches concert and soloist classes at the Musical College in Lucerne
(Switzerland) and conducts regular master courses on an international level. |
