Alicia
de Larrocha, the great pianist, whose recordings and concert performances of the
music of Spanish music have inspired guitarists worldwide for over fifty years. She is
known for her masterful performances of classical and Spanish music. Her interpretations
emphasize the lively, crisp rhythms of Spanish composers such as Isaac Albéniz and
Enrique Granados and the formal elegance of classical-era composers. Among the great
number of prizes and decoration received, Alicia de Larrocha was nominated Doctor Honoris
Causa for the University of Ann Arbor (Michigan) and Carnegie Melon and Middelburry
College (Vermont). She has also received Medalla de Oro al Mérito de las Ballas Artes
(1982), the Premio Principa de Asturias (1994), UNESCO prize (1995) among the most
important ones. Her discography has been awarded with four Grammy Prizes, three Edison
Prizes, to Grand Prix du Disque, two Records of the Year, the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis
and Franz Liszt Prize. The Copenhagen Guitar Festival is very honoured that Alicia
de Larrocha holds 'The interpretation of Spanish music' master class, under the festival,
on Monday 9th of July. Alicia de Larrocha gives a recital in the Library Hall, Round Tower (Rundetaarn) on Sunday - 8th of July 2001 - at 8.30 p.m. |
