Watch the Solar Eclipse from Cinemateket’s Rooftop Terrace

On 12 August, the Round Tower, Cinemateket and the nationwide initiative Sol26.dk invite guests to experience the solar eclipse from Cinemateket’s rooftop terrace, Filmtaget. Our astronomy communicators will be present throughout the event.

More than 83 percent of the Sun’s disk will be covered when we experience a solar eclipse in Denmark on 12 August from 7:20-9:00 pm.

It will be the best solar eclipse visible from Denmark until 2039, so there’s plenty to look forward to!

The eclipse itself can be experienced from Filmtaget at Cinemateket, while throughout the day, Rundetaarn and Cinemateket will be getting everyone ready for the big event with films and activities.

Programme on 12 August

2:00–4:00 pm – Himmelbio/Cinemateket: The Road to El Dorado + Learn about solar eclipses with astronomers from Rundetaarn

Watching the eclipse is free, and eclipse glasses will be handed out to the first 500 visitors.

Rundetaarn’s astronomy communicators will be at Filmtaget on the day and will also bring their Smart Telescope. Please note that there may be a queue to observe the eclipse through the telescope.

The event will go ahead even in rainy weather, as Himmelbio can be covered. If the sky is cloudy, Cinemateket will provide a live broadcast of the solar eclipse in Himmelbio (limited seating, first come, first served) from a location somewhere in the world where the Sun is visible.

PLEASE NOTE: Never look directly at the Sun without approved eye protection

Even though the Sun will be partially covered, it is essential to never look directly at it without approved protection. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection for your eyes. Always use CE-approved eclipse glasses or another approved solar filter if you want to watch the eclipse.What if it rains or the sky is overcast?

The event still takes place in case of rain or clouds. Cinemateket’s sky cinema can be covered, and they will also provide a live broadcast of the solar eclipse in the sky cinema (free admission, but limited seating and first come, first served) from a location somewhere in the world where the Sun is visible.
