Astronomy, beer and quiz

Kick off December with a cosy evening of astronomy, quiz and beer as the Astronomy on Tap community comes to the Round Tower. The Observatory at the top of the tower will also be open, offering the chance to catch a glimpse of Saturn.

(Please note: The event will be held in English.)

As the winter season gets underway, the Round Tower’s regular event series, “The Astronomical Hour”, returns with a twist on the usual lecture format – this time with beer and a quiz thrown into the mix. We are delighted to welcome the international concept “Astronomy on Tap”, which, as the name suggests, brings together a passion for astronomy and a love of beer.

The Danish chapter of the association has been on a short break, but is now back. And what better place to make its long-awaited comeback than the Round Tower, an iconic landmark in the history of Danish astronomy.

Two researchers, each with their own area of expertise, will take the audience on an informative yet informal and entertaining journey into one of astronomy’s big questions. Each talk will last approximately 30 minutes, followed by a quiz with prizes based on what you have just heard.

Round off the evening with a spot of stargazing

On the evening, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the newly restored Observatory and look through its historic telescope. If the skies are clear, there will be a chance to see Saturn and its rings.

You can also visit the exhibition about Ole Rømer and his great discovery as well as the special exhibition Light Echoes.

Doors open at 6.30 pm. Admission is free, but participants must reserve a ticket via the link.

Please note that, despite the concept’s name, the Round Tower is unfortunately unable to serve beer on tap. However, we will, of course, have a selection of other beers available.

“Astronomy on Tap” is a lecture series organised by local chapters around the world. The Danish chapter is run by PhD students from the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark. Their mission is to make astronomy accessible to everyone in a relaxed and welcoming setting, with beer and other drinks.

The talks are held in English to make them accessible to both Danish and international audiences. But don’t worry – they are pitched at a level that everyone can enjoy.

The Astronomical Hour at the Round Tower is an evening dedicated to astronomy, science, the universe and everything that moves through space. The format usually takes the form of lectures, but may also feature a quiz or something entirely different.

The event is part of the Round Tower’s LIGHT YEAR 2026 programme – a year-long celebration of light and the 350th anniversary of Ole Rømer’s groundbreaking discovery of the speed of light.
