Layered Voices – Choir Performance in the Spiral Ramp
Layered Voices – Choir Performance in the Spiral Ramp
Experience the Round Tower’s iconic Spiral Ramp in a whole new way, as its unique architecture merges with live choral singing. The event is included in the standard admission price.
Let the calm settle in on a chilly December day with a unique choral performance created specifically for the iconic Spiral Ramp. Architecture and song come together to create a truly special experience in these historic surroundings.
In the choral performance “Layered Voices,” the singers move through the Spiral Ramp and around the tower. Music becomes an integral part of the space as harmonies and voices create textures and resonances that blend with the architecture of the Round Tower. The audience is free to move among the voices. Depending on where you stand, the music takes on a different character, with each location offering a new listening experience.
Nine Singers Take Over the Spiral Ramp
The performance is created by Emma Knudsen, in dialogue with writer and dramaturg Marthe Bleu and choreographer Martha Elisabeth. Emma Knudsen studies at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory and draws inspiration from Japanese musical practices and soundscapes. In this choral performance, she explores how music can be more than something we listen to — it can become something we inhabit.
The choir consists of nine singers, all of whom study at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory.
The audience can experience the performance at either 4:30 pm or 5:30 pm. Each performance lasts approximately 30 minutes. Hot drinks will be available to purchase both before and during the performances.
No special ticket is required to attend. Simply turn up and purchase standard admission on arrival. Your ticket also grants access to the two exhibitions, Ole Rømer and the Great Discovery and the special exhibition Light Echoes. You can also make your way to the top of the tower to enjoy a 360-degree view of Copenhagen.
Layered Voices is part of the Round Tower’s LYSÅR 2026 programme — a year-long celebration of light and the 350th anniversary of Ole Rømer’s groundbreaking discovery of the speed of light.
