Danmarks længste vandløb. En gudernes å, der kan bære mennesker, sten og liv. En urgammel strøm af værdi, en flydende forbindelse og passage. Rig på planteliv. Brudelys, hjertebladet vandaks, vandranunkel, pindsvineknop, gul åkande. 

Ved dens bredder blev der sat mange store sten. Heriblandt Langåstenene – både I og II.

Langaa-stenen I blev fundet som et brudstykke. Et fragment af en sammenhæng, vi aldrig kommer til at forstå. Ordene på stenen kan ikke læses eller tydes med sikkerhed. “Efter… Thord” Er den rejst efter Thord, eller en anden? Der mangler noget tekst imellem. 

Sprænghullerne nederst på stenen viser, at kløvningen af stenen er foretaget af menneskehånd. 
Som gjort af en litoklast, en stenbryder, er dens meddelelse blevet slettet. Var det på grund af censur, manglende interesse eller uvidenhed? 

Forflyttet, forlængst, forbundet. Stenen mistede relationen til sit sted og det landskab den kendte. Området ved Langå mistede en vigtig fortælling. Forbundet var den, forlængst, inden den blev forflyttet. 

En egeskov med gamle egetræer. De virker magiske, som de står i fred, og får lov at kroge deres grene. Området er fredet. Bøndernes dyr går på græs i fælles græsgange, som de har gjort i generationer. Det er en gammel bevokset udmark, og måske har området set sådan ud siden Langaa-stenen blev hugget i, placeret ved åen og sidenhen fundet, fjernet og flyttet til København. 

Se på området ved udmarken på de to tegninger. Naturen uden bestemt tid, periode og epoke. Med overordnede linjer, lys og struktur får landskabet lov til at stå. Landskab og natur, der kan have præget stedet i tusinder af år. En fornemmelse af forbundethed til naturen, en fornemmelse af at have mistet. En fornemmelse af at være forflyttet fra naturen. 

Den tredje tegning viser Langaa-stenen. Placeret sammen, alle tre pasteller, er det en symbolsk genforening af landskabet og stenen. En genetablering af sten og sted som forbundne. En markering, et gravsted, et monument. “Rejst efter Langaa-stenen”.

Sidsel Bondes tre pasteller bringer Langaa-stenen tilbage til oprindelige omgivelser. En rituel afsked, et fredeligt jordefærd for Langaa-stenen. Vi kan forestille os Gudenåens rislende vand, dufte de våde planter og høre summen af liv“….Efter …. Thord”.

The Langå Stone I

Denmark’s longest river. Gudenåen A river of the gods – capable of carrying people, stones, and life itself.
An ancient current of value, a living connection, a path in motion.
Rich in plant life: flowering rush, claspingleaf pondweed, water crowfoot, bur-reed and yellow pond-lily….

Along its banks, many large stones were placed. Among them: the Langå-stones — one and two.

The Langå Stone 1 was found as a fragment.
A piece of a larger whole we may never truly understand.
The inscription on the stone  cannot be read or deciphered with certainty: “After… Thord.”
Was it raised in memory of Thord? — or someone else? The middle part is missing….

At the base, marks from blasting, show that the stone was split by human hands.
As if by a lithoclast — a stone-breaker — its message was erased.
Was it censorship? Indifference? Or simply ignorance?

Borne off, Bygone, Bound
The stone lost its relation to its place — and to the landscape it once knew.
And with it, Langå lost part of its story. It was bound, bygone, before it was borne off.

An oak forest, with ancient trees.
They seem almost enchanted, as they are standing still in peace — allowed to twist and stretch their branches freely.
The area is protected. Local farmers still graze their animals here, just as their ancestors did.

This is old, overgrown common land.
And perhaps, it has looked this way since the day the Langå stone was carved,
placed by the river, discovered, removed, and eventually brought to Copenhagen.

Now, look at the drawings of the land. Nature, outside of time — no set era or age.
In bold lines, light, and form, the landscape is allowed simply to be.

Nature and land, shaping the area for thousands of years.
A feeling of connection — and of loss.
A sense of being displaced — separated from its nature.

The third drawing shows the Langå stone.

Placed together, all three pastels symbolically reunite the stone with the landscape.
A restoration — stone and place, once again connected, bound.
A mark, a grave, a monument:
“Raised after the Langå stone.”..

Sidsel Bonde’s three pastels bring the Langå stone back to its original surroundings.
A ritual farewell. A peaceful burial.

We can imagine the Gudenå River’s gentle flow, the scent of water plants, the hum of life all around.“…After… Thord.”
